Other Considerations

While a pool owner is choosing between a freestanding enclosure and one that is permanently attached to their home, they should keep in mind that even a simple pool building often starts around $10,000.  When measuring the space that will require coverage, in addition to measuring additional space on all sides of the pool, height must be checked as well-to accommodate slides or diving boards.  Regardless of what type the owner prefers, they must research pool supply stores in person and/or online, and obtain quotes from construction companies, who should provide references and get checked through the Better Business Bureau.    Pool owners also need to keep in mind that certain parts of the country have specific considerations, such as extremely high winds or very harsh winters.  Safety features are important, even if pool owners don’t have children, unless the residence is in a very remote location.  Still other choices include sliding partitions, screens, condensation-proof window panes, and aluminum coating (since chlorine and humidity may shorten metal’s life).  Finally, the pool owner should have all details and warranties in writing, especially regarding assembly and insulation for non-permanent pool enclosures.

Even though adding a pool building may seem like a lot of work, owners should remember that is a one-time project which will offer years of benefits.  It will add value to homeowner’s property as well as increase the aesthetic quality to their swimming area.  By possibly doubling the time that the pool can be used, it makes its maintenance more cost effective.  And, utilizing solar energy to heat the water is energy-efficient and environmentally correct.

Whether installed at the time of pool construction or years later, most owners are thrilled they made the decision to enclose their valuable swimming pool in its own building.
